A General Gun Quota Permit is a type of limited entry permit that is required in order to participate in designated general gun hunts on select Wildlife Management Areas. The following information provides further details on specific information regarding these permits.

General Gun Quota Application Worksheet and Choices

Cost: $0.00 to apply, $0.00 per permit.

Requirements to Apply: Unless exempt, applicants must have a valid Management Area Permit to apply.  

Exemptions: Some quota hunts allow exempt hunters to participate without a requiring a quota permit. Exempt hunts are indicated in non-bold print on the Application Worksheet (above).

Group Applications: Group applications are accepted in Phase I.

Preference Points: Preference points are cumulative and available in Phase I for applicants who are unsuccessful. If you fail to apply during Phase I for two consecutive years, your preference points will be reset to zero.

Transferability: Most General Gun Quota permits are NOT transferable. Blackwater dog hunts may be transferred.

How to Apply: Hunters can apply online at GoOutdoorsFlorida.com by signing on and choosing “Apply for Limited Entry/Quota Permit” or by completing an Application Worksheet and presenting it to any license agent or tax collector office. Each applicant may make up to five choices on an application in Phase I and II, one choice on an application in Phase III Leftovers.

Application and Permit Issuance: Applicants may submit one application and receive up to one permit in Phase I or Phase II. Permits are issued by random drawing during Phase I and II, and issued on a first-come, first-served basis during Phase III Leftovers. Each hunter may obtain five permits cumulatively for this permit type.

Drawing Results: Drawing results are typically posted within three business days after the end of the application period.

How to Get the Permit: Permits may be obtained online at GoOutdoorsFlorida.com or at a license agent or tax collector office. Successful applicants with a valid email address will have a copy of their permit emailed to them. Permits may also be downloaded and stored on the Fish|Hunt FL mobile app. Blackwater dog hunt permits will be mailed to the address on file.

Guest Permits: Each awarded permit includes a guest permit.

Reprints: Customers can reprint their permit at no cost from their customer account at GoOutdoorsFlorida.com, permits may also be reprinted at license agents or tax collector’s office for a fee.

Returned Permits: Hunters unable to use their permits may return the permit. All returned permits are included in weekly reissue drawings throughout the season.

Reporting Requirements: Hunters should check the WMA brochure for any check station requirements for their hunt. Public lands hunters may also receive a survey after the season concludes to assist the FWC in gathering valuable insight and data.
