Temporary COVID-19 Public Access

Out of an abundance of caution related to the COVID-19 pandemic, and staffing required to operate our hatcheries the following temporary public access measures will become effective Friday 8/13/2021 at 1700. Public access at both FWC freshwater fish hatcheries, the Richloam Florida Bass Conservation Center in Sumter County and the Blackwater Fisheries Research and Development Center in Santa Rosa County, will be limited to no more than 12 members of the public inside either facility at any one time. This number excludes staff members. Any hatchery group visit scheduled prior to the effective date and time of this temporary access measure will still occur as scheduled.

The Florida Bass Conservation Center is at the site of the old Richloam Hatchery and is the major freshwater fish production hatchery, in the state of Florida, supplying fish such as largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, bream, triploid grass carp, striped bass and sunshine bass. The Florida Bass Conservation Center also conducts research on aquaculture methods.

Visitor's Center Is Open From 9:00am to 3:00pm Monday through Friday (Except Holidays). Please Pre-Schedule Large Groups or student Field Trips.
