Creating a conservation cooperative helps coordinate conservation efforts on a landscape level while providing multiple benefits to participating landowners (public and private) such as increased communication, tool sharing, work days and dedicated assistance from resource professionals.

An example of an LCA is the North Florida Prescribed Burn Association. Together, this group of landowners serves to educate and provide opportunities to experience the safe, effective use of prescribed fire alongside other knowledgeable landowners.

Contact an LAP biologist to learn about existing cooperatives and how to join a cooperative in your area.

"Got Invasives" Fact Sheet

The American Tree Farm System is a nationwide community of more than 90,000 individuals and families joined by their desire for excellence in forest stewardship. These landowners share a commitment to protect watersheds and wildlife habitat, conserve soil and provide recreation for their neighbors and, at the same time, produce the wood that America needs for thousands of useful products.

The mission of the Land Conservation Assistance Network (LandCAN) is to promote the protection of endangered species, wetlands, farms, forests, working lands and other open spaces by empowering landowners to make smart decisions about their properties. LandCAN is a comprehensive resource for farmers, foresters, ranchers and other landowners who wish to make more responsible, sustainable decisions about the use and future of their land. LandCAN offers a variety of resources on private land ownership, including informative articles and a searchable directory of conservation programs and professionals throughout the country.
